The Inventory for the Journey

Life’s a journey; and everyone who travels along the journey of life must understand the journey and play by the rules of the journey.

Adequate preparation is needed to arrive safely at your intended destination.

Now listen; have you taken proper inventory of your journey’s requirements?

Well, when I talk about taking inventory of the journey, I’m talking about counting and considering the cost. Anytime you begin a journey you have to take into account the cost. The Bible shares with us in Luke 14:28 that before you set up a building, you must first seat and count the cost. In other words, make a budget.  You have to consider all that is involved, or all that will take place, could take place, might take place, all that should take place, and all of that.

Woman of God, if I may ask; why do you think you need to take inventory of the journey of life, especially, the journey to destiny fulfillment?

Consider it helps you pause to think, is this what I want to do, is this where I want to go, are these the persons I want to be in my circle, are these the things that I need, or necessary for the journey. To add to this, it helps you to build trust in God; how enormous the demand for the journey is?

What Does it Mean to be on a journey?

So, when you think about journey, you make think about a place, process, position, or steps to moving toward your dream.

Let me ask you Is there a journey you’re undertaking at this moment? I’m sure there is as you are in the land of the living.

We could look at journey in different perspectives. The word journey as mentioned could take on a broad meaning of different things that can take place in our individual lives per time. Like maybe you’re going on a trip out of the country you know that’s a journey; there’s some preparation that has to take place before you begin the journey. And sometimes we don’t necessarily look at it that way to prepare for the journey.

Sometimes we are thrown into a journey by the choices we make.  Do I have any witnesses out there? In those certain types of journeys we were not necessarily prepared for.

Or think about it like this. If you are married, as newlyweds suddenly y’all having a good old time enjoying one another in holy matrimony, and lo and behold you find out that you guys are expecting your first child.  When that happens for most, you didn’t prepare, or you didn’t have the conversation beforehand to properly consider the cost it will cost for this baby on the way. At least there is nine months to attempt to get things together. This is example of being thrown into situation. Nevertheless, when you surrender to God, you let God have His perfect will and way. And you say “when children come, they come”. It’s nothing wrong with planning it either.

I’ve had to go in some cases and learn and pick up certain things. Some journeys I had to repeat because I didn’t necessarily get books that I believe that God wanted me to have on the journey beginning. You know, even with the Christian walk, if you are a believer and you started this journey either at a young age, young adult age, adult, or maybe you know someone much older.

But whatever age, that is a journey, a spiritual journey you could call it and in that journey, you’re learning about God. You’re learning about the ways of God, and on the journey, you don’t always have it all together, or you may miss something due to your lack of knowledge, your lack of preparation, your lack of resources, or whatever it is that you need.

Your own journey at the moment could be that dream, that short term goal or your ministry expectation. In this post, I want to share some specific tips on how to take inventory for a successful journey.

Tips for taking Inventory for your Life’s Journey

  1. What do I want to achieve in this journey?

You’re going to be specific as to what the need is, what the desired outcome is, as it relates to the people, the places, and the things.

When you read through the scriptures you see examples of men who understood their journey from the beginning; Deborah was a woman of God who knew she was going to be a generational deliverer. Apostle Paul knew he was call to reach out to the Gentiles. You’ve got to be specific.

The question of where to go from here is the most important and fundamental of them all. You must get direction for every journey you take.

Are you taking a physical journey, a spiritual journey, business, academic, marriage, career, or whatever, the question is, what do you want to achieve in the end?

If you intend to be the first female to ever bang a first class honors in a particular course of study in a college, you need to count the cost. Truth is, you must be clear of what you want to achieve.

  1. Be realistic with your expectations

Another thing you’re going to be mindful of is to be realistic; you’re going to give yourself ample time, to achieve whatever goal it is that you are trying to obtain from this particular journey. From this particular path that you believe that God has for you.

Remember, God made us differently and with different abilities; don’t subject yourself to undue pressure. Set realistic targets for yourself before setting on any journey.

  1. Delete negative Attitude and Mindset

You going to also consider certain habits, thoughts, and behaviors of yourself as well as those that you connect yourself with.

If you do these things you’re going to see much better results as you go forward. Another thing I would say is, you need to be understanding. Positive mindset will help you face oppositions in your journey like talked about in episode three of my podcast; that although the journey is not easy but it is possible.

Every journey of life has its ups and downs. Challenges are a part of life’s process. Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you go through deep waters…” and not “If you go through deep water…” That verse is a confirmation to the fact that challenges are a part of our life’s journey.

Your attitude to handling oppositions and road blocks is a major determinant to how far you will go in the journey.

  1. Be accountable to someone outside yourself

So again you’re going to consider what people do you need for this journey, and in discovering, you’re going to invite God to help you find those people. You have to make sure that those people actually, are in alignment with your vision. The right people will come along at the right time as you wait on God to help you. So you don’t need to over emphasize about it but you do have to be very serious with it.

Be accountable. Tell somebody about your goals so they can hold you to it. You know you say I want to lose 15 pounds by the summer time, Ok, come up with whatever regiment goal and how you’re going to obtain that goal, and then get someone involved to hold you to it.

  1. Evaluate your inventory

This is the point where you have put analyze these entire inventory together.

Yes, you have set a realistic goal or target, you’re clear on what you want to achieve, got the right attitude, and got an accountability partner. The question remains; can I go ahead in this journey? Am I good to go? Am I ready for it takes mentally and otherwise? Do I need to put off this journey till a later time?

Conclusion

Every journey of life needs adequate preparations for a successful landing. Your faith no matter how strong could fail if you aren’t prepared for a thing.

Every good inventory of a journey breeds good performance and optimal productivity. Diligence in preparations will make you sit with kings and not with mean men.

Take time to take inventory of your journey!

I trust this post will serve as a source of empowerment for every woman out there; who desires to make a difference in life.
